Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (Fantasy, High Fantasy)

Mare was ordinary, a Red. Born to be poor and serve the Sliver upper class, destined to fight in a war that will never be won and suffer the same fate as her older brother shade. The only thing that could keep her from going was to get a job, but she was out of luck, her brothers and father had served but one died, one is still serving, and one greatly injured. As with most red villages money is sparse, so when she found that she could buy her and her friend Kilorn freedom but could only get the money in two days she turns to the only thing going for her. The thing that has kept her and her family afloat, pick pocketing but she was going for small buttons or  small pieces of metal she was going for the jewels and gold only found in the silver village. However as she enters the Silver town, havoc erupts from the recent bombing by a group called the scarlet guard, a group of rebels made up of reds and leaving mare unable to get the money to save her and Kilorn  she makes the dangerous trek back to Stilts (the name of her red town) . Mare encounters a mysterious boy that offers her a job in the castle, she takes it with intentions of stealing but while in the castle she discovers a life changing phenomenon that will affect her life forever. 

The Red queen is full of twist and turns from the very beginning you find yourself favoring either Cal or maven,  each of the characters present themselves with a unending eternal conflict that shapes to connect and pull on the emotions of the reader take for example Cal. He is to be the next Silver king and  marry Evangeline a very trigger happy and powerful silver, however as Mare comes into his life unexpectedly as an anomaly with red blood and engaged to his younger brother by force he developed undeniable feelings for her. However, this created a choice of love or power pulling the book through all of the twists and turn , this book will keep you on your toes chapter through chapter leaving you with a wanting for more.
