The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie (Realistic Fiction)

The book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian is about a boy named Junior that suffers from a lot of injuries like brain damage. He also has trouble breathing. He also ended up having forty-two teeth in his mouth and not thirty- two teeth. Junior also had a huge head from his brain damage. Junior had a friend named Rowdy. Rowdy never really liked Junior because Junior would never like to do crazy dangerous stuff with Rowdy. Junior also got bullied at school. The bullies would call him rude names like huge head and nerd because he was very smart. Also, Juniors parents were very poor and could not afford to drive Junior to school, so Junior had to walk 20 miles to school. Then one day Junior had to move to a different school called Rearden. After Junior moved to Rearden, he did not see Rowdy for months. Then Junior’s Grandmother died of old age and Junior’s sister died because she was having a party and she got so drunk that she fell asleep and never woke up the next morning. Junior joined the basketball team at Rearden, and they went to the playoffs and won the school championship game.

The part that I liked about the book was when Junior and Rowdy were friends because Rowdy was Juniors only friend. I also liked how Junior played basketball because I like basketball too. The part that I did not like about the book was when Junior was getting bullied and people made fun of him. I also did not like how he was a poor kid and had to walk to school almost every day. Another sad thing that I did not like about the book was when Juniors sister and grandmother die. I think I would recommend this book to teenagers because I liked this book and I think teenagers like me would like it too. I felt sad because sister and grandmother died. I also felt sad because he got bullied and made fun of. I also felt surprised because I did not know that he would walk to school because that is very dangerous to walk on a main road with speeding cars. I also liked this book because there were a lot of problems to solve. I really hope you liked this book as much as I did.
