The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (Realistic Fiction)

The Fault in Our Stars is a fabulous book about a young teenage girl who was diagnosed with lung cancer, and how she finds love in her life. Sixteen year old Hazel Grace has never had an easy life, suffering with cancer and her many death experiences brings her to joining a support group. There she meets Augustus Waters. Augustus has had osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, but has recently had the all clear. Hazel starts off hesitant but ends up finding her path through the group. Both of their traumatizing childhoods leads them to an amazing friendship. Augustus shows her a new perspective of life, teaching her that her cancer doesn't define her. Hazel and Augustus end up spending all their days together, both finding love within each others interests. Hazels passion for reading rubs off onto Augustus and they both fall in love with a book called Imperial Affliction. Their friendship is a roller coaster of emotions, including, romance, sadness and love while on the search for their favorite book author. They travel to Amsterdam in search of Peter Houton, the author of Imperial Affliction. With shocking news from their favorite author and Augustus, the trip takes a turn for the worst. Their journey, through cancer, friendship and Amsterdam illustrates that even when the worst has come, there will always be light again.

I loved this book! The book gave me a different perspective on cancer, friendship and love. With all the two main characters have been through, it was exciting to read about them living a fun life together. I liked how Augustus and Hazel had two totally different personalities in the beginning of the book. Hazel being the laid back no risks kind of girl and Augustus being the complete opposite, made them stronger for each other. The ending of the book is what upsets everyone who reads it, however I personally think it gave the book more life and emotion. I think anyone who wants to should read this book. Even though it bases around teen romance there is so much more involved in this book. A lot of books may have similar story plots but I feel this book was executed perfectly with witty humor and unexpected heartbreaks. If you want a book that will make you laugh, cry and smile then this is a great match. This book made me feel and express all those things and more. Overall, you're really missing out on this fantastic book if you don't give it a try, its worth it.
