The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (Dystopian Fiction)

Once a year the wealthy and brutal Capitol forces the 12 separate districts they rule over to sacrifice one girl and one boy tribute to fight to death on live TV. These hunger games are a reminder and a warning that the capitol can not be overthrown without serious consequences. The 74th games were not like any other, when the capitol chose Prim, Katniss's sister, she had to volunteer in her sisters place almost certainly saving her life. Katniss had to leave her family, her best friend Gale, and with her leaving there was no one to take care of or look after her family. This gave her the push she needed to realize how important it was that she came home. Her fierce and strong personality, as well as her bow and arrow skills made her a stand out contender and a crowd favorite. She also meets her fellow tribute Peeta, he's head over heels for her but is she as madly in love as he is or is it all just an act. Her choices are tough, will she do whatever it takes to win the games or will the pressure and her odds go to her head.

The Hunger Games is a book that both girl and boys in middle school would love. It will be impossible to not become obsessed with Katniss's love triangle and her action packed journey through fighting and justice. This book unleashed all of my emotions... my hope for Katniss, my empathy for her family, my anger and hatred for Snow, and my sadness for the dead tributes. This book is a roller-coaster of high and low moments for a majority of the characters. The book was written in a genius way of being able to show immense growth through characters you might not have been the biggest fan of in the beginning but fall in love with in the end. The author of this fantastic novel, Suzanne Collins, created an unbelievable suspense throughout the whole story making the book extremely hard to put down. I loved this book because the detailed vocabulary really made the book come to life. The way the author made Katniss so relatable was another part I really liked because it felt like you could really understand how she was feeling and it made the book so much more interesting being able connect with the characters. Therefore if you love action packed fight scenes, romance, and dystopian themes, this is the perfect read for you. If you enjoy this book there are 3 other amazing books to this series.
