This Was Never About Basketball by Craig Leener (Fiction)

Ezekiel, a high school boy, whose parents are divorced was an outstanding basketball player. He had a ton of friends, scholarships and fame. In one moment, his life changed. There was an incident during the state championship. He lost his scholarship to Kansas university and got expelled from school. There was only one high school that would accept him and that was McDermy prep. Then one day during the weekend Zeke was walking through town and saw a poster for a three on three tournament. It was at the local community college and the winner played at Kansas university. Little did he know that there was a 3rd dimension that one of his special ed friends could communicate with. After the incident happened on the court, the 3rd dimension thought people weren’t appreciating basketball. So, because of this they were going to take it away. Zeke hasn't seen his dad in a long time because he was losing his mind after coming out of the army. Zeke was so mad at his dad for not coming to see him, although he always sent Zeke a birthday present. Since Zeke was so mad, he just never opened the gifts. Although Zeke was mad at his dad, his dad helped them with the 3 on 3 tournament. Before he fell asleep that night, he went to see his friend about the 3rd dimension.   He asked how he could stop it from taking away basketball.  The only way was to talk them into not doing it.  They had a limited time to get the mission done, so he couldn’t take the train with his teammates. Will Zeke and his friend drive around the country to save the game of basketball?

I liked this book a lot because I liked the way the author used many descriptive words to make me feel like I was in the book. I thought that this book was very well written. I like the idea that there is a limited amount of time to save basketball and they must drive around the country to save it. I think people who like basketball and science fiction would like this book because there is the three on three tournament and there is another dimension that is trying to take basketball away. The only thing I didn’t like about the book is that the author kept putting the climax off and off and that part got kind of boring. The book made me wonder about other dimensions. I wonder what capabilities other dimensions must control us here on Earth. It’s jaw dropping and you will never know what will happen next. I especially like this book because the author creates such a suspense that its surprising. I also really liked how the author did show not tell. Overall, I thought this was a great book and I would recommend it to athletes. Will Zeke be able to save the fate of basketball?
