Everless is a thrilling fantasy novel that takes place in the land once known as America. In the kingdom of Sempra, time is currency- extracted from blood, bound to iron, and consumed to add time to one’s own lifespan. The Gerling family, who might as well be royalty, tax the poor to the hilt, making it as if they were immortal. No one hates the Gerling more than Jules Ember. Almost a decade ago, Jules and her father were servants at Everless, the Gerling estate. They were forced to flee after a fateful accident and have been hiding from the Gerling’s ever since. Jules discovers her father is running out of time and is willing to do whatever she can to save him. Even if it means going back to Everless, knowing that she needs to go, before she loses him forever. The Gerling’s are looking for new servants, specifically female. Jules sees this as an opportunity to buy her father more time. As Jules races against time, odd things start to happen and the more she knows the more dangerous it is. She must fight for her father’s life, and maybe even her own.
Everless by Sara Holland is a very good book for boys and
girls in middle school, and late Elementary school. One of the things I love
about this series is that you can really connect with the characters. You can
understand their motivations and actions.
I really connected with Jules, because I think that she had a good life
and it was taken from her, and she works hard to get it back. I admire her for
that. Another thing I love about this series is how you can only see Jules’s
point of view at first, but then you really get into Liam, and Roan’s point of
view too. It really is impossible to not like Jules, and I think some of the
tropes in this book are really inspiring and amazing. This book was just a
thrilling read and I think if you enjoy fantasy books you would like it. You
might even like it if fantasy books are not your favorite genre. Everless was incredibly exciting and
suspenseful, and it was very hard to put down. The words flew across the pages
and painted pictures in my mind, making me feel everything and it made for a
remarkable and unbelievable read. This fantasy action packed thriller, with a
bit of romance, might be one of my favorite books ever. This book has a prequal
called Evermore, so if you enjoyed this book check it out.
