Dry by Neal Shusterman and Jarrod Shusterman (Dystopian)

The drought or better known as Tap-Out. That's what everyone calls it. It has been going on for a while now. This book takes place in California, far in the future. The entire state of California has been in desperate need of water. People say that Vegas still had water, but all the millions of hotel rooms there have all been booked within hours of the Tap-Out. Ever since the Tap-Out started everyone's life has become an endless list of don'ts, such as things like, don't water the lawn, don't fill up your pool, don't take long showers, don't hog all the water to yourself, and don't drink too much water at once. Suddenly, Alyssa's quiet suburban street turns into a war zone of desperation in need of water. The other families and children in her neighborhood start turning against one another fighting now and then to hunt for water. When her parents don't return, and she and her brother are threatened, extremely worried about their parents. Alyssa has to make impossible, important, and smart choices if she's going to survive. It's basically making life or death choices, if you make the wrong choice you could die. It's up to Alyssa to see if she and her brother Garret will survive this horrible time.

I liked this book a lot I liked the plot, how California was in a huge drought and how Alyssa's neighbors start fighting one another in need of water. I also liked this book because it has some humor in it. The book always has a lot of unexpected surprises, making it so much better and more fun to read. This book was also really realistic no matter how intense it gets. When the book started to get intense which is a little towards the middle of the book, I just wanted to keep on reading for hours desperate to know what happens next in the book. I think that the characters in the book were very funny, especially Kelton, Alyssa's next-door neighbor. Another reason I liked this book is because it's so descriptive that I can imagine the things happening, what the characters are doing, and saying, and look at it like it's a movie in front of me. This book also contains a separate story named Snap Shots of John Wayne. The snap shots give you an idea of what is happening in California at different times. These snap shots are usually located at the end of each chapter.
