The Summer I Turned Pretty is a book about a fifteen-year-old girl named Belly she, her mom, and her brother go to a beach house at Cousins Beach every summer for the past 15 years/ her whole life with her mom's best friend Susannah sons Conrad and Jeremiah. Belly has a really close relationship with Susannah and she is like the cool aunt of the family. She is almost like a second mother to her since her real mother doesn't have a close relationship with her. They don’t have a close relationship because her mother and father are divorced, and she thinks it is her mother's fault that her parents are divorced. This summer she goes to the beach and the boys finally notice her, which is what she has been hoping for, because Belly has had a huge crush on Conrad, the oldest brother of the family, since she was little, even though she gets a boyfriend Cam and looks from the younger brother Jeremiah, she has always liked Conrad. Belly is scared to confess because she is afraid Cam will be mad. Will this summer finally be different? Or will Belly stay with her boyfriend Cam and keep herself away from Conrad?
I liked this book a lot because I noticed a lot of different types of figurative language such as similes and metaphors. I think my mom and some of my friends would enjoy this book because it has a bit of romance, hooking, and turning points. Every time I got to a turning point I would not let the book down. I just wanted to read all day. So, I also recommend this book to people who enjoy turning points. This book made me feel like my relationships with my friends and family, whether strong or weak, will all change over a long time. This book was a really fun book. I was able to read it really fast because I liked the plot. I didn't like the personalities of the characters in the story, but I did like the humor in this book. The characters were funny. One of my favorite parts is the plot twists at the end of the book. This book was really sweet, romantic, heartwarming, realistic, and detailed. I could imagine the characters as if they were my friends in the story. I felt like the story was very well-connected and not choppy. Everything was smooth and left me wanting to read more.
